Lelli Kelly Unicorn Shoes Now in at Jake Shoes

Over the past few years, there has been a new surge in the popularity of the unicorn. The mythical beast with a single large, pointed, spiralling horn projecting from its forehead, has made its way on to every item you can imagine. And it’s no surprise that Lelli Kelly, known for creating footwear of dreams, has incorporated the legendary creature in to some of its most recent designs.

Why are unicorns so popular?

The current surge in the unicorn’s popularity can almost certainly be put down to Instagram. The glittery, colourful, mystical creature is arguably the most Instagrammable creature there is. The unicorn plays a prominent role in several recent children’s films and television programmes. In My Little Pony: The Movie, featuring Emily Blunt and Zoe Saldana the main star is a Pegasus / unicorn cross called Princess Twilight Sparkle. Prior to that, the only creature to get its own spin-off show from the 2014 Lego movie was Princess Unikitty, the pink ruler of Cloud Cuckoo Land and CBeebies show the Go Jetters features Ubercorn, the disco dancing, geography guide. Long before our current obsession, the unicorn has captured imaginations. In the 16thand 17thcentury, powder and tableware made of unicorn horn were much sought after because it was seen at the time as an antidote to poison. Unicorns were talked about in the same breath as exotic creatures from the north or the sea, which gave them their elusive reputation – creatures you could never quite see and never catch. Unicorns are rare and magical, and whilst it’s not hard to see why children are attracted to the glitter, unicorns are also seen as brave and symbols of hope, purity and strangeness. As Juliette Wood, author of Fantastic Creatures in Mythology and Folkloresays,
“I think the unicorn has endured in culture because it’s just too lovely are rare to abandon, isn’t it?”

What makes the Lelli Kelly Unicorn range so special?

Just like their mystical namesake, the Lelli Kelly, unicorn decorated canvas shoes are characterised by their sparkle. The multi-coloured beads and sequins are hand-sewn using a process exclusive to Lelli Kelly, which means that every pair of shoes is unique. The decorations are sewn to the shoe using special, extra strong, nylon thread, using a technique designed to ensure they are steadfast. As a result, the shoes are machine washable, although we do recommend following the washing instructions carefully. The shoes feature a removable leather insole and an adjustable strap so they can be properly fitted to your child’s feet, whilst keeping them comfy.

Be more unicorn

So, as the saying goes,
“Always be yourself, unless you can be a unicorn; then always be a unicorn.”
…and treat your little one to a pair of shoes that will make her sparkle.
